went for mitt romney. >> brian: when van jones said romney won you had a good night if you are rom romm. this sound bite is the strongest. we heard big oil accident tax breaks and busting the economy. not only did mitt romney attack this and address this, he grouped in and compared those alleged tax breaks with green energy investments with our money, listen. >> don't forget. you put 90 billion dollars worth of breaks in solar and wind to solyndra, and fis car and tesla and i friend of mine said you don't just pick winners and losers, you pick the losers, this is not the kind of policy to get america energy sescure. second topic you said you get a deduction for taking a plant over sea. i have been in business 25 years and i have no idea what you are talking about. maybe i need a new accountant but the idea for getting a break for shipping jobs over seas is not the case. we do have to bringg money from over seas back to. >> gretchen: that line happened to her. i got to hear that was to me, that is the mitt romney that a lot of people didn't think existed and wanting to see more of which

line and mitt romney put it back at him last night. candidates will barely have time to catch their breath. they get back on the campaign trail today. the president will be in colorado and wisconsin. the romney camp moves along to the swing state of virginia. you have got 13 electoral votes up there. bill: we find john roberts in fishersville, virginia. >> we have a concert here in the heart of the shenandoah valley. country music star trace atkins will be joining the governor. chris christie promised a restart of the campaign. it's unanimous the government won that debate. the snap polls after the debate showed that. the governor promised he would aggressively counterattack against any mischaracterizations the president threw his way. an did that all night on the offense. he did offer some level of detail. >> i will eliminate all programs by this test if they don't pass it. is the program so critical it's worth borrowing money from china to pay for it? if not i will get rid of it. obama-care is on my list, i apologies, i use that term with all due respect. >> the big question

the night when he pointed out, you know, the governor romney's ideas apparently are too good to communicate to the american people. he wants to keep them a secret. doesn't want to tell us how he will pay for this tax cut. he doesn't want to tell us how he will pay for this defense spending. doesn't want to tell us how he will reduce the deficit. >> he did. >> he wouldn't provide any specifics that is still the problem. people are still waiting. he may have won on performance but he definitely lost on substance. >> i don't think we were watching the same debate. mitt romney said he would the no raise taxes to pay for his tax cuts. he said he was going to cut spending. even said that there would be a grade. he will not borrow money to pay for a program. he said he would cut pbs and big bird. he was very specific about what he would do. in certain places though romney questioned obama and obama just looked at him, when obama said basically you get a tax cut or a tax deduction for moving jobs overseas. mitt romney said i've been in business last 25 years, i don't know what you're talking about.

. >>> let's dig deeper now, president obama and mitt romney take the stage tomorrow night, how they look, what they say during the debate could speak volumes over what they actually say. their body language speaks volumes. we have an associate professor at harvard business school. she joins me now. you say when it comes to gestures, ones that convey power and warmth are really important to making effective politician, and you point to former president bill clinton as master of warmth. i want to show a video of him during a town hall with ross per roet and then president bush back in 2002. >> you know people who lost their homes and lost their homes? >> uh-huh. >> he's walking toward this woman, toward this voter, away from the people on stage. so he's focused on the voter, not on the other candidates. he's gentle, his body language is gentle. he's leaning toward her, he's even softened his voice. he's nodding, makes incredible eye contact. he signals to people when he is talking to them, you are the only person in the room. you are the only person. the clinton tractor beam that really me

obama and mitt romney take the stage in denver tomorrow night, how they look, what they do during the debate may speak louder than what they actually say, or as loudly. research in fact suggests their body language will speak volumes. amy cuddy is an associate professor at harvard business school who studies how people perceive others and what shapes the impressions we have of others. she joins me now. you say that when it comes to gestures, ones that convey power and warmth are really important to make an effective politician. you point to former president bill clinton as the master of warmth. i want to show a video of him during town hall with ross perot and then president bush back in 1992. kind of walk us through what we're seeing. >> okay. >> you know people who have lost their jobs and lost their homes. >> so he's walking toward this woman, toward this voter, away from the people onstage so he's focused on the voter, not on the other candidates. he's gentle. his body language is gentle. he's leaning toward her. he's even softened his voice. he's nodding. he makes incredible

important night of mitt romney's life. bill: he talked about something bigger than that, and that's a path forward for america. he talked about a choice. you can go one way or come follow me. >> i think the president will be staying the course. saying the economy is getting better and also defining mitt romney. he has to make this about a choice, not a referendum on his first term. bill: if there is a surprise what do you think it might be? >> i think romney has to throw the president off stride. he has got to get under his skin. maybe he mentions president obama's penchant for playing golf when the economy is ouring. bill: does one have more to lose than the other? >> i think the president has more to lose. in 2008 he had that line against hillary clinton. he said you are likeable enough, hillary. that basically cost number new hampshire. he has the lead but he has the most to lose. but he can't be too careful because if you are too careful you are not going to win. bill: when you consider colorado, those folks are dialed in on this election. here is martha. martha: no doubt governor romn

after night. i can't always say the same. >> meanwhile, the romney campaign is on the offense, taking friday's september jobs report which the white house touts as a triumph and turning that against the president. listen. >> this economy is not doing well and the fact that you have a white house celebrating an unemployment rate of 7.8% with 23 million americans out of work or unemployed or underemployed, tells you a lot about the failure of this administration's policies. >> this, of course, leading up to thursday's first and only vice presidential debate between joe biden and paul ryan. democratic congressman tim ryan joins us this morning from the crucial swing state of ohio where an appeals court decided on friday that early voting will be reinstated for the three days that lead up to election day. nice to see you. thank you for taking with us. >> good to be with you. >> appreciate that. let's talk a gallup poll to start with. you can see in the time since the debate, it looks as if mitt romney has gained points. president obama has lost points. i think you guys have the wrong poll

tomorrow night of imcompetence. look, mitt romney, it's all on him. all on him. all president obama has to do is basically just be himself and not say anything, just repeat the same old thing. mitt romney has to convince the american people that going forward, he's a better alternative than the president. it's not going to be easy. so he's going to have to paint the president as an incompetent. this libya thing can be part of that, but certainly the economy, way more important to the folks than libya. but he can weave it. the second thing is that romney has got to kind of put aside his politician persona. i mean, he looks perfect, right? he looks like a president should look. but that's not working against him because people don't know who he is. he's got to find a way to say look, this is who i am. this is why i'm better. in very simple terms. it's daunting task for the governor. >> gretchen: yeah, it is. because if he comes across as sort of being in attack mode, which a lot of republicans want him to be, then the press might say, oh, wow. he really went too far. >> he can't care abou

debate between barak obama and mitt romney is tomorrow night and the campaigns are doing whatever they can to get ready. actually i heard that the obama campaign is a little worried 'cause during his flight to nevada on sunday, the president apparently watched four hours of football instead of studying. [ laughter ] although it did mark the first time all year obama has seen something get passed. [ laughter ] >> steve: funny. >> brian: i did not hear that. is that the premise of that joke true? that he watched four hours of football? >> martha: you can also go back to the notion that it shouldn't take that much studying to get ready for this. >> steve: you should know. >> martha: they've been working on these issues, they've been campaigning on these issues across the country for months and months and months. does it really take that much studying to get ready for this? >> brian: is it wrong to disagree with martha? >> martha: absolutely. ask hemmer. >> brian: i think it's totally different when someone is coming at you and saying you're wrong about this and defending something yo
